Day 4: June 14, 2018 - Berenice Manzano

Today June 14, 2018, the never before seen in the West Coast, was the installment of the RailBlazer roller coaster at Great America. What set this roller coaster apart from many other roller coasters is its design of one rail instead of two rails. What is also unique about this roller coaster is how long the track is, with a track length of 1,800 ft and an angle descent of 90 degrees with a drop of 100 ft. The track that resembles a “bowl of spaghetti” as stated by construction project manager Lowell Esposo, helps make the ride last longer, yet use up

little space.

At the opening of the RailBlazer we got into the checking booth and got a pass to enter for free and got a coupon for a free water bottle. Once we got in, we were guided to where free food was being handed out. We had the opportunity to ride the roller coaster, but I was personally too nervous to ride the roller coaster because of my long time fear of heights. The idea of going on the ride was making me really anxious and so I decided it would be best to not ride the roller coaster. We were able to interview some of the team members who designed the ride. Me and one of the photographers (Mya) got really nervous when it came time to interview these important people and we did pretty well getting answers to our questions. Once the ribbon-cutting ceremony ended, it was great to see so many fireworks light up in the sky, and see a crowd of kids running to get in line to ride the roller coaster. Because we had a free pass as press, we were able to go on other rides and not pay at all.
