A rising junior at Downtown College Prep in San Jose, Anahi Del Castillo considers heritage a central part of her identity. While she is still unsure of what career she’ll pursue, Anahi wants to travel in the future, as she believes that it is important to create empathy among different ethnic groups. A native Spanish speaker, she finds that bilingualism influences most of her perspectives on community. Her favorite part about living in California is the prevalence of the Hispanic culture. Self-described as “sarcastic” and “loud,” Anahi holds herself to high standards as reflected in her busy schedule of soccer, basketball and trying to find a summer job. Anahi manages to stay grounded in the support of her family, which she regards as the most important thing in her life.
