Day 7: June 17, 2018 - Anahi Del Castillo

I woke up around 7 a.m. this morning not knowing what the day had in stored. I was only aware that I was going to go to San Francisco with the rest of the Mosaic group. I wasn’t all that excited about leaving my father on Father’s Day but I knew he was very enthusiastic about me going on this trip.

After about fifteen minutes of scrolling through on my phone, I jumped up quickly and start getting ready. Around an hour later I was on my way to the Diridon Station. Arriving at the station, I could feel my tiredness running through my body but the excitement quickly overpowered it.

Everyone shared similar emotions of being eager but still zombie like from the early morning arrival time. After waiting in the station for about 30 minutes, at last we were able to enter the Caltrain. While on Caltrain, we rested up for the day ahead of us.

The ride seemed to go by quickly. Once we arrived in the San Francisco station we all charged out. We all were given clear instructions from Joe that if we get lost meet at the crab statue at Pier 39.

Starting the journey to the center of San Francisco felt like a mission. Joe gave us a tour of everything we encountered on the way. For example, he explained the teen attraction to Metreon Shopping Center because cheap prices. Reaching the food court, everyone was eager to scatter and get food. Despite being overpriced, the food was delicious.

Finally, the moment Joe was most excited for came: the race down the stairs. It was a very close race but one runner wanted it most — Richard. He used his track and field experience as an advantage. Don’t ask Joe who won this race because he’ll say himself.

We strolled through Chinatown where we stopped at many attractions like shops, the dreary mural and the fortune cookie factory. Joe told us about his family involving the dreary mural and the Chinese Exclusion Act. He also made us take a picture in the middle of the street in Chinatown.

We made our way to the famous City Lights bookstore and spent roughly 45 minutes there. We looked over many books and struggled through the cramped bookstore. We then headed to Ghirardelli Square, but we got lost on the way there and had to ask for directions. Once we got there, we went inside the chocolate store and then headed to Pier 39.

When heading to Pier 39, we came across a man performing on top of a very unstable stand made of bottles and aluminum. This show kept our attention until the very end of the performance. After watching, we had approximately 30 minutes at the Pier, which by the way isn’t very much — well, for me. I went to grab something at the food stand and then to a shop, but I wasn’t back in time. We were in a rush to make it to the bus, and I was nowhere to be found. A few minutes later, I got there and we headed to the bus to take us to the train station.

When we got the train station we rushed on and headed home. Finally we arrived to San Jose and all went our separate ways.
